AI SEO: when the answer is one paragraph, it names three sources
AI SEO — also called GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) — prepares a site to be cited when an AI answers a question. The shift is simple and brutal: Google shows ten results and the user picks; a language model gives one answer and names two or three sources. Either you are in it, or you are not in that conversation.
What changed
Ten blue links versus one answer
Search did not die. A second shelf appeared, and it holds far fewer products.
| Google search | AI answer | |
|---|---|---|
| Space available | Ten results plus ads | One answer, two or three cited sources |
| Who chooses | The user, comparing | The model, which already compared |
| What wins the spot | Authority, relevance, links | Being the clearest, most verifiable source on that question |
| What you get | A click | A mention, and a click only if there is more to see |
What gets done
What makes a site quotable by a model
A model does not read your site like a visitor. It looks for blocks it can reuse without getting anything wrong.
One direct answer per page
A 40 to 60 word paragraph that answers the page question completely on its own. That is the block a model can quote verbatim, without interpreting anything.Real questions, not invented ones
The questions Google already shows in People Also Ask, answered in your own headings and marked up as FAQPage.Structured data that agrees with itself
Organization, Service, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList and Person, linked by @id. When your markup says one thing and your copy another, the model drops you and cites someone else.llms.txt
A plain text file at the root describing the business, its services and its prices for language models. It is not an official standard and no model is obliged to read it, but it is cheap and it puts your version in writing.AI crawlers allowed on purpose
GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended and Applebot-Extended explicitly allowed in robots.txt. Plenty of sites block them without knowing, through a plugin.Indexed in Bing
ChatGPT Search and Copilot lean on the Bing index. A site that is weak in Bing starts the match a goal down, however well it does in Google. How it works
From invisible to cited source
The same method this site runs on — which you are welcome to audit yourself.
-
Baseline measurement
I ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini about your service in your market, using the questions a customer would type. What they answer, who they cite and how they describe you is recorded.
-
Fix what the model believes
When a model repeats an outdated phone number, address, price or service, I trace where it comes from and correct it at the source: your site, your Google profile, the directories.
-
Content that answers
Every page gets its direct answer, its real FAQs and question-shaped headings — without padding the word count.
-
Technical layer
Coherent structured data, llms.txt, AI crawlers allowed in robots.txt, Bing indexing and IndexNow pings whenever something changes.
-
Authority off site
Models lean on sources they already trust. We work on where you can be found cited: industry directories, trade press, professional profiles.
-
Monthly tracking
The same questions, asked again, month after month. The report says whether you appear, how you are described and which sources are winning the mention.
FAQ
Questions about AI SEO
Straight answers, including the ones that do not help me sell.
What is AI SEO?
AI SEO is the work of making a website usable — and quotable — by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews. It covers the classic technical foundation plus the parts a model needs: a direct answer per page, real questions answered, coherent structured data and crawler access.
What is the difference between SEO, GEO and AEO?
SEO ranks a page among search results. AEO (answer engine optimization) shapes content so it can be used as the answer to a specific question. GEO (generative engine optimization) goes further: it works to be cited inside a generated answer. In practice they are done together, because without the technical base the other two do not hold.
Can you pay to appear in ChatGPT answers?
No. There is no panel where a position inside an answer can be bought. Anyone offering that is selling something else. Citation is earned by being the clearest, most verifiable source on that question.
Does llms.txt actually do anything?
It is not an official standard and no model is required to read it. What it does is cheap and useful: it states your business, services and terms in plain text, so a model does not have to infer them from your layout. This site publishes its own at /llms.txt.
How do you measure AI visibility?
With a fixed set of customer questions asked every month in the same models, recording whether you appear, how you are described and which sources appear beside you. It is a trend, not a rank: the same question can return different sources to two people.
Does blocking AI crawlers protect my content?
It protects it from training use and removes you from the answers at the same time. For a publisher living on its own traffic, blocking can make sense. For a service business that wants to be recommended, blocking hands the mention to a competitor.
Do you work in English?
Yes. I am based in Colombia and work in Spanish and English, with clients in Canada and the United States. Everything is delivered by the engineer doing the work — no account manager in between.
Does AI name you, or your competitor?
Send me your site and your service. I will ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini, and send you exactly what they answer. No charge, no pitch deck.
